I'm headed to college next year at UC Riverside :( , and i was wondering how close the velodromes in So. Cal are to Riverside. Last time i checked there was one in Encino, Dominguez Hills, and Los Angeles? I'm not familiar with the area so any information would be appreciated. I've heard from friends that the town of Riverside pretty much sucks, so i'm praying that at least one of those velodromes will be conveniently within driving distance.

Your friends are right. Depending on your major, maybe you can eventually transfer to UCLA or UC Irvine.

I live about 5 minutes north of Irvine... It has some good riding there... The closest Velodrome is Cal State Dominguez hills... although i heard they built a new one near the same location... by the Home Depot Center in Carson

Yeah, riverside isn't that great...but you'll be at school, so you'll meet people.

as far as velodromes, I"ve never been to any of them down here...I'm actually confused about where they are...I know there was one in OC, and I guess they tore it down? I dunno, but I heard the one they're building to take it's place is an indoor wooden track...this is just what I heard though, so don't quote me.

The thing I don't get is, is the one in OC the one that people keep calling "The Los ANgeles Velodrome"?

there is one in Encino for sure, though.

Yeah, i guess riverside is a certified s***hole. Wish'd I had applied to a wider range of schools. At least there will be more places for me to ride my fixie. I'd say that the smooth oval bank in a velodrome beats the poorly maintained (and hilly) roads of san francsico.

There is one in Encino (SF Valley). website:encinovelodrome.org
Another in San Diego. website sdvelodrome.com. Near the zoo.
The one in Carson was torn down to make room for the Home Depot Center. They are building a new indoor wood track at that complex.

When is that track going to be finished? or is it done already?

from the home depot center website:

"The Home Depot Center hosted the 2004 USA Sevens Tournament, an International Rugby Board event and will host the 2004 World Junior Track Cycling Championships, 2005 World Track Cycling Championships and the 2006 IAAF World Cup in Athletics (track & field)."

cool!

although...not to be a *****er, but why is it that everything in LA ends up being in the south bay? they never build anything north or east of downtown LA.
