I'm just curious to know what ratios you guys were running for urban riding on your ss mtbs. I live in Brooklyn so I don't have hills to deal with but I need something quick. I know we all have our preferences, but I would appreciate some ideas.

Are you talking transportation/commuting style? If so, I run anywhere between 44x16 or 44x18. The lower gear is on my townie SS right now because I haul groceries on it sometimes and have some big hills. The bigger gear works pretty good for most stuff.

edit: corrected my poor spelling!

I use a 40x17 ratio, and it is just fine. I did the calculations, and at 100 rpm, you'll be cruising at 20 mph(27 inch wheels). It's good for the headwinds that can get fierce here.

yeah, i know. Maybe knock of a MPH for that issue. Another thing, is it going to be for tricks, or for commuting?

Can you show this caculation for RPM gear ratio = speed? I'd like to see it.

I can link it to you...

My apologies...18 mph at 100, 20 at 110rpm

enter in 40 on the first, with the rest being "0", 17 on the next, the rest being "0", hit calculate, then at the bottom, hit the speed at cadence button.

I laugh hysterically when I read your postessess.

Besides, you meant malice. Deny it and deny yourself.

Just an opinion, but to be really cool to this guy who posted the thread, trukkie819.3, you could have given him the link. You know, give a man a fish, teach him to fish type of deal? Since you're gonna be a technology teacher (as you posted other places) why not show him where to learn...

Listen, I just thought you were doubting me as you do others, and usually do me. I apologize for the mis-communication. No hard feelings. ;)

Not a slam, its an observation. It just seems you have a tendency to to that, thats all. I could be wrong, as many people are when they make observations. I was never trying to slam you in the first place, I just thought that you were doubting me, and that is how I responded.

Aside, no problem for the link. Sheldons doesn't work on my computer, so I google searched it, and found that one.
