Anybody know of a daily group ride in the Boca Raton area in the mornings? A small group is fine.
Boca Raton Bicycle Club, here is the address http://www.bocabikeclub.org/content.aspx?page_id=0&club_id=195201
Yeah, I filled in the Contact Us form but never heard back. There doesn't appear to be a consistent ride each day during the week. I'll try to hit up some of the listed rides though. Thanks!

I am sure that the Boca Bike Club has some great rides. They are in the Loggers Run area all the time and from my personal experience out west of 441 between Palmetto and Glades and even a little farther north of Glades are great roads and not too populated with motorists early in the mornings. The members I have met seem really nice.
I joined the club and did only one group ride (Loggers Run). I witnessed something on my first ride that has prevented me from any further Boca club rides. Being new to the group one Saturday morning 9/27/08, I rode with their B group. Off we went and I managed to hang in for about the first 18-miles and then I bonked. The average speed was around 20-mph. Guess I needed more of a warm up... Anyway, after I got dropped from the group I continued on and found my way back to Loggers Run parking lot. As I was heading east on Palmetto, and right before the left turn into the parking lot, I heard "on your left" and the A group began passing me. The leader without even looking over his shoulder put out his left arm indicating a lane change and then he along with about 8 other riders shot across the right lane, through the left lane and as they were entering into the left turn lane (at the light) some dude in a F-150 slammed his horn, then his brakes, skidding to avoid the A pack. The group swerved back inside the left lane and the pissed off F-150 hit the gas, shot into the left turn lane, swerved around the pack and shot across the intersection from the left turn lane. All of those riders could have been hit. It would have been a real 'red' mess. However no one from that group even budged and they continued their left turn into the intersection and into the parking lot. I was close behind them and as I was loading my bike onto my truck, not one of these riders even mentioned the incident.
The guy in the truck was an a-hole for passing them in the turn lane. He's a perfect example of a pissed off motorist that has it out for cyclists. But I saw first hand how his anger/frustration developed. I am certain this was an isolated incident and not indicative of the Boca Clubs safe riding procedures. But if that is the type of riding some of them condone, I want no part of it. That was an arrogant move on the ride leaders part. Should the others have followed without looking over their own shoulders? I don't know the answer because I don't group ride. Somehow they should trust the leader? I'd love an answer to that.
So if you hook up with them use caution. And again, I am not blasting the club, but that shook me up and turned me off.
