Pacific Northwest - Route from ferry to Magnuson park?

Since I rarely venture to Seattle on my bike, what's the best way up to Magnuson park for the expo from the ferry? I think I can just follow the waterfront, through the parks (gasworks ?), cross the Ballard(?) bridge and then catch Burke-Gilman to there? Am I correct? Is that the only way across the water on a bike?

From the ferry, I assume you mean the Bainbridge/Bremerton ferries.

I rode from there back to the east side (along the BG Trail) after Chilly Hilly last year. My route may not be the easiest for hills, but it's quick.

Head up Spring St to Boyleston
then hang a left on Harvard up to E. Union.
Take a right on Union and follow it to 23rd.
Take a left on 23rd.
23rd jogs right at Turner Way coming down the Hill and becomes 24th. (Seamless transition. Trust me, you can't miss it unless you really try.)
24th becomes Montlake at the bottom of the hill, and goes across the bridge then through the U. District.
Winding through the U. District, it becomes (alternating:) E Montlake Pl, Montlake Blvd, NE 45th St, finally becoming Sand Point Way, which will bring you right to Magnuson Park @ NE 65th.

Alternat raoute

Take the water front trail through Mrytle Edwards park and interbay right on dreyfus to 15th take the ramp on 15th exit on Nickerson. Follow Nickerson to the Fremont bridge, cross r on 34th stay in bike lane to Stoneway/ At Stoneway enter Burke Gilman trail, follow to NE 65th r down hill to park. It may be longer that the above route, but it is more scenic. PS Stay off the bAllard Bridge it truly sucks for biking.

I second ngateguy's suggestion. Fremont Bridge is very easy.

I try to avoid 23rd since I find traffic on scary at times, but that varies with the individual I guess.

That was my guess. I couldn't remember the exact route or which bridge.

more common would be to roll up to the pike place market on western to blanchard, or detour for a croissant and a cuppa coffee at the Market, then 1st/pike to 4th to blanchard.

..... Blanchard to 7th turns into dexter which rolls all the way to the fremont bridge without the longish route ascribed above.

turn right at end of bridge, look for pickup of B-G trail at first stoplight 34th/stone way.


heading to eastlake from blanchard is even more direct to magnuson park via the university drawbridge. go to blanchard via above, but all the way to westlake. left on westlake to lake union, then right to connect with eastlake. follow eastlake along lake union until you reach the university drawbridge, exit first ramp extreme right after bridge 270 degrees and pickup BG trail directly underneath the drawbridge. much new trolley tracks on this route, be aware if choosing westlake to eastlake route.
