Long Distance Competition/Ultracycling, Randonneuring and Endurance Cycling - RUSA bike shorts?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Looking through the RUSA store (http://www.rusa.org/cgi-bin/storedept_GF.pl?catid=3), I see they have bike shorts for sale. The price seems pretty low and I'm wondering what the quality is like. I'd hope that they wouldn't be selling riding gear that isn't up to the demands of long rides, but just $45 for a pair of shorts makes me wonder.
Has anyone tried them out and care to share their opinion?

They look like they're just basic lycra shorts with (I assume) some company's house-brand chamois, and a screened logo down the side. I don't wear non-bib shorts, so I wouldn't venture to try them out.
I'd love to get a wool RUSA jersey (both long and short sleeved ones) but they don't come in gigantic Sasquatch size, so I'm talking to my local club to see if they have any 3XL jerseys of their design.
i wanted any of their wool caps (or the non-wool ones even), but they're all out of stock! must be a popular item..
i ordered a water bottle & some medals instead.

The caps are a brand new item, arriving for sale this week for the first time. They may not have the order forms quite right yet, or they may not have received the inventory yet. You may want to try again in a day or two.
