Blogger's Forum - How do you promote your blog?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Comments on other blogs, sigfile, family, friends.
I'm trying to build my bicycle commuting blog but after the first couple of days when friends popped in to say hi, it's been quiet. I just signed up Metalchef as a contributor, so maybe it'll get going.

All of the above, but the good old business card is in the mix for local promo. I use the same colours and logo. Give them out at rides and leave them at local bike stores.

Good meta tags and plenty of inbound links,,, for traffic I use Twitter, blogcatalog and sometimes Link referral. I started out by using Entrecard for traffic but that felt like to much hard work, but I did come away with some good link exchanges before giving up!

I wrote an ASP image rotator script, and posted it on all the free script engines, like hotscripts.com, etc...
Now I get about 300 downloads of that script a day, and quite often they stick around a bit and read...
That said, I have not updated in forever... :(

Hotscripts.com is an excellent place to promote.. Having said that, I have seen directories promote their directory on that site before. So I gave it a go with my directory back then,, and got it refused :-(but hay, cant win them all! Places like hotscripts.com you need a script to promote as submissions are vetted!! Try Free traffic systems.com and submit articles,, It's a bit of a pain but it does build links really well!!
I just stick mine in every forum and website I can manage. Sort of like wandering the sidewalk asking for hugs.

I do that as well. And will usually drop 1,000 business cards at Interbike.

All good suggestions here. Make sure you have a link in your email signature as well. Every little bit helps.
Make sure your site/blog is indexable by Google spider and that there are no errors in the site that will hurt your ranking. I'm still learning this stuff.
- Sign up for Google Webmaster Tools and learn to use that, submit a sitemap to Google
- Learn Search Engine Optimization.
If you're using Wordpress there is SEO plugin for it and WP can create, update and upload the sitemap.xml to Google.
Eventually spend some money and place a few ads with Google or with other related websites.

Promoting your blog or site is the most important thing once your site is ready and live. Here are some points to be considered while promoting your blog/ site
- Build incoming links, get people to link to your web site
- Search engine optimization; use keywords and meta tags
- Use Pay per click advertising, Google Adwords, Yahoo
- Write a news release
- More website promotion methods
^^Join an unrelated discussion forum and display the link in your signature? :innocent:
Do I have enough links in my signature? ;)
I do that as well. And will usually drop 1,000 business cards at Interbike.
I've been thinking about printing some cards and dropping them off at bike shops, events, etc. One blog, one forum - one on each side. Although, that conflicts with my philosophy of "not wasting stuff" :(
My hits have been increasing gradually. I post (constructive and positive) comments on other better known blogs and they often link back to me in their news, etc. It takes time, that's for sure. I also pay few bucks a month to have some ads in Google. Plus heavy optimizations according to Google guidelines: meaningful links, plenty of keywords in the body relating to the subject, proper (but not too many) META tags (too many and unrelated and your site will be penalized or dropped from Google index).
Oh, and besides Google Webmaster Tools submit your site to Bing and Yahoo, they're still relevant.
Oh, and one more thing: anyone with cycling related blogs/sites interested in exchanging links? See my sig.

So far by commenting and following other bloggers
Throwing 17,000+ sig links up on bF.net can't hurt...

So far I've just been using Facebook and a little of this forum. My blog is brand new (less than a week old) so I'm not expecting a huge number of viewers. Once my blog is bigger and has more to look at and do, I'll get some business cards and place them at the 3 bike shops that are close by, and of course I'll get all my friends and family folllowing me!
