What was the last bottle of wine you had and what did you think of it?
http://www.eccodomani.com/images/merlot-bottle.jpg
Mine was a 2007 Ecco Domani Merlot 2007, about nine bucks.
I liked it, not much of a nose but it was a good wine, and the tannins were not bitter.

2006 Cellar #8 Cabernet....not too bad...our standard house wine. excellent for the typical price of 7 or 8 doll hairs.
One of my recent favorites is the Bodega Norton 2005 Reserve Malbec. I picked up a case of it at Costco in virginia for $13/bottle.
The most recent I drank was the Yellow and Blue Malbec

Don't let the box fool you. This is excellent wine.

The last one I had was gascon - malbec. It was around 9 or so bucks and rather good for that price point.

A surprisingly good Texas wine for under $10. If this was a California wine, it would be a $30 bottle.

A Chardonnay with no label...:o It most likely was a CA wine, bottle has been around here for at least a couple of years. Went well with my herb chicken dinner:thumb:

I had like 10 tastes of all kinds while out with my mom on Saturday. We were at a wine making shoppe and had to test the goods before we committed to a batch.
That being said, my favorite wines are Valpolciella and a good old vine Zinfandel. The red kind, not that pink crap. If you like jammy/slightly spicy wines, Gnarley Head Old Vine Zinfandel AND Monkey Business Old Vine Zin are freaking fantastic. You can even mull these for a more desserty experience- heat it up a little, throw a cinnamon stick, a clove or two, a dab of honey... HOLY MOLY.
Last bottle of wine I had was a Schmitt Sohne riesling. Way too sweet for most people, perfect for me. :D

a 1996 cabernet I had forgotten that I had. It had aged quite well. Price? Don't remember.
It was a Columbia Crest, so probably not too much...$10 or less would be my guess.

Have you tried a Sauternes yet?
No... I started drinking wine not too long ago, so I'm still learning... :o I'll put it on my mental list of wines to try, though. :D Is it white?

yes...and pretty expensive, but some say it is the ultimate dessert wine. Very sweet.

Patriarche Pinot Noir 2006, a Vin de Pays d'Oc
Pretty good for under $10 Canadian

It's also incredibly inconsistent from vineyard to vineyard and from vintage to vintage, even in the same vineyard. The region the grapes are grown in has a horrible climate for growing good grapes, they're prone to fungal infections and rot, and so yields are pretty low.
But, the principal of "it's crap, but there's so little of it, it becomes desirable" applies :p

A couple of days ago I opend a bottle of Nieto Senetiner 2005 Reserva Shiraz - Cabernet and it was a very nice wine. I will have to go and buy a few bottles to keep on hand!

Earthquake Zinfandel 15.9% by Lodi Wines, one of the best reds I have had in a long time.

it is that fungal infect (boytritis) that gives Sauternes their unique flavor. And each to their own as to "it's crap". Some people love the stuff.
Personally, I'd much rather sip a little LBV port, but April is just getting into wines, and I'm suggesting some that would help expand her palate.
Haven't been drinking much wine lately - (prefer a good Merlot) - but I did at Christmas do a little window shopping at the liquor store and ended up with a Chilean Merlot --- '06 Undurraga. Pretty tasty, deep flavor with a rich fruity background. Should have bought a couple bottles and stored them away (HA - that's not possible, hehe).
Oh yeah and I toasted with the family at Christmas with (patoooo) my Mom's favorite - Lake Niagara - ugh.

April - Check out Becker vinyards. They have a lot of well reviewed wines and are close by: http://www.beckervineyards.com/index2.htm
Thanks for the suggestions. :)
Edit: thanks, kw. I need to go on a wine-tasting tour... something I haven't done yet. :D

Had a wine from Argentina last weekend. It was just something different I tried. It was a varietal I had never heard of and now I can't even remember what it was. Was actually pretty good. Right now I have a bottle of Jacob's Creek Shiraz/Grenache open. It is not good. :twitchy:
Tonight will be Berberana Dragon Tempranillo.

I've been drinking it, on and off - depending on the supermarket's weekly discount scheme - for about 2 years. It's a nice, smokey, full bodied red. Love it.

I learned early on in a trip to Italy to really only like the bulk/draft stuff from the locality. Got disappointed any time we found ourselves in a place w/ only bottled wine. I've sorta kept that with me ever since.

finished off this one last night...
I don't tend to drink much wine. With no one to drink it with I have to drink it all at one go or use the last of it for cooking.:notamused:
I like Pinot Noir, Shiraz and other reds. Of whites a nice crisp Riesling in summer is nice. I do like the late harvest Rieslings as a desert wine.

Cycles Gladiator Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
Ten-twelve buck range.
Fair wine. No nose, currants--lotta currants, medium acid, quick finish.
I can drink whites okay, but if I drink reds, I get hot, to the point of sweating. Can you wine snobs tell me why?

Red Wine Headache
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_wine_headache
Its root cause has been confounding the big brains in the white coats for a while.
I blame the tannins.

If you don't like it, then make like a tree, and get outta here.
