Fifty Plus (50+) - What I woke up to this morning

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Those with teenagers should be able to relate.
5:45, lying in bed waiting to get up. knock on the door, 17 yo son "Dad, where's the plunger?"
Me "what?" son "where's the plunger?" Me "what? why?"(really dumb question)
5:46, Me (now wide awake) "Wait! stop! don't do anything else!" In the past the 'if it doesn't go down with the first flush, keep flushing till it does rule' was employeed, not good.
5:47, Get out of bed thinking of going to search for the plunger in the unheated garage.
go to MY bathroom to get comfortable, and there it is. Nice and warm and toasty.
5:48, Have the thought of having him do the plunging. Stop to think about what a plunger, a stopped up toilet, and a 17 yo could do to a just refinished bathroom. Refinished in white.
5:49 rethink 'plunging lesson', put pants on.
5:50 go into his(shares with his sister) bathroom, and inspect the 'victim'.
5:50.30 get a feeling of disgust, revulsion and anger when I realise that this was sitting all night long. And pride at the sheer volume and size of the offending 'logs'(you can't take the frat boy out of the man).
5:51 S l o w l y position plunger. push plunger once, twice, three times the charm, away it goes. Flush twice for good measure.
5:52 feel grateful this worked and I didn't have to search for the 'snake'.
5:52 vow to have the kid eat more fibre.

My boy's learned to use the "tool" at a young age. My older son had allergies and would blow his nose and throw the tissues into the toliet. After 5 or more tissues almost any item from a 'twig to a log" would create a jam due to wadding underneath.
Look at the bright side, you only lost 7 minutes of time and your son got a "new PR".

I will never understand why a plunger isn't stored where it is used. I've never had to plunge a garage.

I will never understand why a plunger isn't stored where it is used. I've never had to plunge a garage. For the same reason why I don't carry a torque wrench on my bike...:p

I am impressed by your garage. Mine has as much, if not more, stuff - but yours looks tidy! I reckon even I could find things in your garage.

HI,
Lets invent a nice plunger holder to mount on the back of the toilet like one of those tire pump holders ,
it could work,:o it would be all nice and hidden behind the toilet ready for use you grab the handle freeing the velcro and you ready for action......:roflmao2:

You could have at least tried to work something bicycle in there; bike pump, perhaps?
Do you have a lot of snow where you are?
P.S. Gotta love what Google AdSense has done with that post:lol:

Your son was awake enough that early to realize it didn't flush? Don't think it would have computed to either of my teenagers at that hour. And we keep our plunger behind the toilet.

While this thread is disgusting and off topic, at least this didn't go where it could have gone. :roflmao2:

Whilst I agree with the posters who have said 'eeooh, TMI!', I feel we should admire Mr Leob's raising a responsible kid even if said kid didn't respect the snoozing hours.
Most teenage males would have taken the 'wasn't me, what's the problem, sort it out yourself, I was on the moon at the time with my buddy Steve, ask his parents' response.
However, credit to Mr Leob for sorting the problem, even though by doing so he's opened the (door? sluice? bowel? parental approval?) for many sizeable repeats

I just realized that if I had one of those ceiling-rack thingies I could buy more bikes.

Hanging it up? I'm not sure I'd want to be around anything that had been sitting under a used plunger.

You're only limited to (N + # of rafters) and a bunch of these thingies:

Actually, I found that running a 1 x 4 perpendicular to the rafters and installing hooks mid-way between the rafters as well as on the rafters allows N + (# of rafters * 2). You just need to hang each bike so it is facing the opposite direction from the ones on either side of it so the handlebars don't get in the way of the other bikes.
