Hiya! I went and tested a Redline 925 today at RBM as a possible commuter. Really liked the bike, it's a dignified darkish green color with cream accent stripes. I even liked the bullhorn handlebars and the seat didn't feel too bad either.
Anyhow, my question is: Do I haggle on the price? Will they negotiate on the sticker price or will I get tossed out on my arse?
I've never purchased a brand new bike from a real lbs before so this is a new experience from me. Thanks in advance for any help you may have to offer.

I've bought parts and consumables from RBM, but never a bike. That being said, I'd try and do some price comparisons on the bike and everything is always negotiable.

Ayup. I went up to Cycle Spectrum at Parker/I-75 and tested the Moto Messenger and the Fantom Uno. I liked the Uno alot, plenty of room for larger tires and fenders and will take a rack as well. But the Redline just felt better to me. Looked better to me as well.

I've bought two bikes from RBM before. Just be honest with them. Let them know you've ridden a couple of bikes, this one is near the top, but you would like to save some dough. I haggled on the track bike I bought from them and saved a bit. It's easier to do the haggling if you're also buying some other swag, but that's not really required.

Tell them you like the bike but would like to have a little extra cash to buy accessories, (speedometer, fenders, rack, etc.).
If you buy it all together, they're probably more likely to knock down the price a bit. That being said, don't be disappointed if you only get a few dollars knocked off.

They have thicker margins on accessories than on bikes.
And no, you wouldn't be the first person to haggle.
Also, ask about discounts for bike club members. It may be worth it to join a club for $30 and save more than that on this or soon purchases.
10-15% is what you can expect. When I was a mechanic,at a different shop, different employees had different levels of negotiating authority. As with any negotation buying a few add-ons or having them thrown in in lieu of a discount can be part of the process.
