This is too tall for a small wheeled bike! Must take helluva effort just to balance on it, never mind ride it! :notamused::wtf::eek:

so where's the fold??

It would have to be one... how do you transport the damn thing if it isn't collapsible? The ladder is the only way to mount and dismount a tallbike safely while its moving.

How do you transport it? I believe you transport it like any bike - by pedaling it. I would probably mount and dismount something that tall from a large second floor window opening. The ladder would be for standing room-only passengers.

LOL! I mean if you need to take it some place. I figure this belongs in the alt bike section but for the wheels. It doesn't seem a practical folder unless you can collapse the ladder and the front hinge and put it in a car. Its more of a novelty than a practical small wheel bike and I believe the key word is small. That's how a folder bike is designed. Small is beautiful!

4 feet tall? Whose feet, Sasquatch? That thing has got to be at least 10 feet tall!

Clever that the long "handlebar" lets the rider steer from the ladder for galoping starts.

NormanF

Probably 12 feet! And you can't store it either! But the ladder is good enough to climb into a second-story window!:lol::lol:

Here's a link to the builders site.

http://www.chopzone.com/skywalker.html

Plans - you can make your own.

Quote from the site...

"SkyWalker turned out to be extremely easy to ride once you learned to trust the bike. With a few pushes, you could casually climb the ladder while the bike rolled ahead, keeping it under total control. Once at the top, you jump in the pilot's seat and start to pedal. getting back down was simply the reverse procedure."

Its kind of cool once you see it. The main drawback is storage and portability. I don't think a 12 foot tall folder is realistic. I hear the guy built a 30 foot tallbike!

^ At least no one can steal it without drawing attention! And if you live in a second storey apartment you can just step right through your window. :)

Imagine all the powerlines you could snag your neck into! :twitchy:

ok, its cool and al that, but stop calling it a folder! this thing does not fold!!

Yeah. I like that you can steer on your way up the ladder, and I'm sure there's a great view from up top, but if the conductor doesn't let it on the rush hour train, there's no point.

Very upright riding position, rather like a Strida.

+1, that's the stuff nightmares are made of.

That's what I was thinking. The wheels are perfect and part of it looks like it could be usable but there's no point to that tall ladder. It kind of defeats the purpose in building it, which is practical transportation.

NormanF

I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for pointing it now. If you like the design, go for the Strida. At least its real folder!

The tallness of that bike is the purpose for building it. It does not fold, it does not go on a roof rack of a car or in a garage. It is not supposed to do any of those things.

Point taken. If it was - I wonder if it would still have a market. As it is, its not for me!

Yeah in all fairness, we really shouldn't take the bike out of context. It is a novelty bike and was never intended for practical transportation. Our friends at the alt bike culture forum create and enjoy fun stuff like this all the time... I can dig it.

It is what it is... and extremely well made too! :)

WTF are you talking about? If it was what? What market? It is a one-off custom.
You seem determined to miss every possible point about this bike you went out of your way to create a thread about.

I figure this belongs in the alt bike section but for the wheels.

Those are BMX wheels. Non machined front rim, single speed rear, rear brake only. (brake is visible in the pics on the site linked by gerald)

You'd probably get annoyed if someone assumed your folder was a bike for a little girl too. Same thing.

NormanF

A small wheeled bike is very stable. But I wouldn't like to try it on twisty or bumpy roads.

Looks pretty fun. I thought it was a brakeless freewheel bike for a minute, then I saw the lever. braking on the rear wheel, I'm guessing.

Now I'd like to see a swing bike version of that bike!

A swing bike would be a step closer to a folding bike, too.

Pocko

^ I didn't notice and couldn't see any brakes in the rear, but yeah... front wheel brakes on something like that is completely out of the question.

Yes, I believe that is about what the chain weighs.
