I just placed a Nashbar order. Does anyone have any idea why they would charge TX sales tax? Do they have a retail store here somewhere?

Nashbar is owned by Performance...and I am pretty sure there are Performance stores in Texas.

There are many performance stores in TX.

If that's the true reason, than someone needs to reevaluate their business structure and make the nashbar online entity an independent company.

Nashbar isn't just an 'online entity' they have a storefront...it's in Ohio, which is why I have always had to pay sales tax with them. Now that they are owned by Performance, they are essentially just another Performance Bike store with a different name. But feel free to write Performance and tell them why they should revamp their current business operations so that you don't have to pay sales tax. I'm sure they'll get right on it. :thumb:

Bike Nashbar is now owned by Performance. We suspect––though we do not know––that the reason Performance bought Nashbar is to fold all the mail order business into Nashbar. That makes, perhaps, for an arms-length relationship between the two enterprises, and allows Performance to get out from under the need to charge sales tax to mail order customers in states in which Performance had a store front presence.

My question...I understand the sales tax being 'collected' by Nashbar where they have a storefront or even a storage warehouse in your state...but is charging tax on the shipping fee legal?
