I'm not a mtn biker. I just need something to go off road on trails that's decent. Performance has this for $539 plus $100 off that plus 10% on top of that. So I'm looking at $400 for this bike. I don't know anything about mongoose. The components don't look horrible... sram x-5. I'm just wondering if it's a good deal or just keep looking on Craigs List.
Thanks

It's not bad for the price.

Thanks.... I just keep looking at Craigs List for the past weeks and it seems every bike listed is maybe a couple of $100 of msrp. Some are listed at msrp and are a few years old. I know there is deals to be had but I haven't found any yet. I guess I'll go get this one...

Take the money to your lbs- for 400 you can get a decent ride, plus they'll be a valuable resource for future adjustments/issues which, IME, is worth more than the money you'd save online.
I don't know how it is where you live. But the majority of people selling there bikes on craigslist in the Atlanta area, I swear are smoking to much crack rock!!!People think just because it says Trek or Gary Fisher, ect, they should be able to sell them for 500-1000 bucks. And what I am talking about in general, is bikes back from the 90's, some of which had ridged forks. Just because they payed that much for them 10-15 years ago, they think there still worth that.
But if you hang out on craigslist alot, deals can be found, you need to act fast to get them.

That makes things easy- everyone's a winner! FWIW- looks like a decent deal to me.
