A few friends and I are planning a short trip starting at my place in Chesapeake VA and going to a place that we will be renting for a week around Kitty Hawk,NC. The trip is planned for the end of August right now.

Now, I have taken both ways by car, (17 and 168), but I don't know if you CAN take 168 on a bike. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

I pretty much live on a road that bisects 17, so that, although being the longer way, may be easier in the long run. Especially since I believe traffic will not be as bad on 17, (except around Elizabeth City maybe?)

If anyone knows this area or anything about these routes and could help out, I would greatly appreciate it. For the most part, distance isn't much of a problem, but traffic is the main priority. (call us wimps)

So, like an idiot I totally forgot about 168 business, and how it's pretty much a main road right by my house. This merges with the 'Chesapeake Expressway' or whatever (168 bypass?) after entering NC, and looks like it sort of turns into 158. This looks like the best and shortest route?
