Anyone riding in the Frost Bike this Sunday? The weather forecast looks pretty good.

Not I, have to work. I've never been able to ride this ride. Didn't it use to be on a Saturday?

I've got a hybrid, and I'm still powering up my legs. I'll probably do the 50 at 11-13 MPH.

I just finished. The college has internet terminals (sweet!) so I'm sitting here eating a hot dog and cooling down. The ride organizers and the drill team girls were all very friendly. The route was well-managed with the exception of the last stretch down Barker Cypress where nobody was directing traffic. I did the 55 mile route in 3 hours, 56 minutes on a hybrid with 700x35c tires.
Fun ride!

Yup, I did it also. I thought it wasn't going to live up to it's name... but the cold front reassured me :( Oh well, still had fun.
It's one of the rides that I look forward to because all of the roads are good. I won't say excellent... but there isn't a stretch of bad road. Oh, and Banana Bread... YUM. Next time I'm at the back, I'll stop at the Softball feilds for port-a-johns instead of holding it till the 1st rest stop. That line was crazy. Rest stop 2 was EMPTY by the time I got there. But still plenty of supplies.
I started 20min late, and for the first 6mi putted along at ~12mph while waiting for someone. Mile 6 I gave up, and upped the pace to ~16. Finished the 55miles w/ 14.4 avg on my fixed gear... totally solo, no drafting. Not bad considering the last ride i did over 25mi was the 70mi Tour de Houston.

Oh, and I'll admit that the Barker section of the ride had a few lights that were not "manned'... but getting stopped at a light is part of riding for me... on a road that busy, it's a given. I did get passed by one car in the right lane, so I just took the lane. No problems after that. I didn't do it the ENTIRE section on Barker... just the areas where the shoulder reall was too small to ride on.
Kudos to the ride organizers of the FB-50. It was nice to ride with 1,100 freezing people in Houston, Texas. I'll remember the temperature when the blazing hot Tour de Pink comes around in September. The only nit I would pick was with the number of "port-o-jons" at the first rest stop. They short by at least ten.
