Mountain Biking - Dirt Drops or Midge bars + steel fork on a Hardrock?

I am considering doing this to my hardrock 1. because I like drop bars and have access to all the shifting and braking changes neccesary and 2. to shed some weight off the front end (RST gila is a pig and barely worth its absorbing qualities). Has anyone put drops on a modern styled aluminum MTB? I feel like the chunky tubes and compact geo. will look kind of silly, but some of the konas are set up like this and seem to look ok.

i actually put bullhorn bars and a rigid fork. the geometry was way too wonky for me, i went back to flat bars but kept the rigid fork. the bike literally weighed 10 pounds less after that. stupid rst fork

I think when im home next ill use an old pair of drops to rough size what the dirt drop's geometry would be. I am definitely going to grab a steel fork though as Lewbowski said. Just when I got my tire pressure/ rebound sort of ok for the hardrock, the sanchions started rusting. I dont really know why they are rusting, ive taken good care of them and I thought modern shocks wouldnt really rust if taken care of... maybe i was wrong. At any rate, screw RST id rather just run low pressure on my fat tires and be much lighter.
