I'm having one of those. Lucky for me, is 2:30am and everybody is sleeping. I have those every now and then. When it gets really bad, I have to hide from people. Walk-in closets are good. I hate having these irrational and unjustified panic attacks.

Tonight's was triggered by wifey being late. We are currently staying on a high crime area and she is not familiar with it... and she is very naive. We ran out of milk and she insisted on going by herself instead of letting me do it. The store is just 2 blocks away and the car haz GPS. It's a 20 minutes trip. What's the worst that can happen? right?

Well, she managed to get lost and had to ask a policeman for help. She came back 4 hours later, escorted by a police patrol. I was worried sick. She had the cellphone but there is no phone in here. I had a 2nd car at my disposal but I had the kids and no extra car-seat. I felt so useless.

The fact that she got lost, driving 2 block away, with a GPS in the car, got me thinking. What else is she capable of? Crossing the street without looking? Running with a knife on her hand? Petting an unknown pitbull? All that stuff... I'm aware these are unjustified fears, but I have them. Every time I'm in love with someone I often think they might cause harm to themselves by not paying attention to what they are doing.

Hopefully it will go away in a few hours, before the family wakes up. This sucks...

PS: Yes, I've gotten therapy for these fears... no cure tho.

I have had panic attacks before; they are awful.

As I understand it, there is little that can be done to make them feel better, but instead they have to be avoided (lifestyle change, therapy, meds, other).

You sure you should hole up during one? Speaking for myself, I always felt better if someone else was involved at the moment.

well... odd shaped blocks, granted.

I'm OK now. For me is easier when everybody is asleep because when they are asleep they can't do anything to hurt themselves. Few days ago the baby girl gave me quite a scare too. She climbed on a chair and fell... didn't broke anything but the elbow got kinda dislocated (not sure the right word)... the doc "snap it" back into place. That might have contributed to last night's panic.

With the children, I usually react first (take care of the problem/emergency) and get the panic later. I never froze during an emergency... that's good.

See ya later,

Strange very strange. I mean seriously how can anyone get lost two blocks from home? Has she never been to this store before? Is this a joke?

Panic attacks are certainly no joke. It's a fight or flight response but you can over come it with reason and thought process.

Goooooooo with the flowwwwwwww.

Eventually things somehow work out. :)

She may have gotten lost in the dark in an unfamiliar area looking for the store. But the point is, she got a hold of the police and made it back safely. She was at least together enough to be able to remember where you guys are staying and not freak. She did good, Ruben. She really did. As for the GPS, maybe for her it was smarter to find the police than pull over and enter info into that thing when there are bad guys around. She did good. :thumb:

You'll be okay. You just worry because you love her is all. You'll be fine. Now go give her a hug.

I've examined the GPS logs (electronic surveillance FTW). She made a left turn after one block instead of two, missing the Walmart by 0.4Mi. Then it seems she tried to correct curse by 2 right turns, but those roads are curvy ones and in reality, ended up going further west. Then there is a U-Turn and some inexplicable random turns. There is no entry on the "go to destination" app on the device, meaning she never hit the "go home" button on the GPS.
