Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - My bike wants to kill me.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

So, a few days after she tries (and damn near succeeds) to eat my finger, we have a little "incident" in downtown S.F. We're coming down Market, above Castro, and the chain decides it needs a rest. It falls off the side, not broken, just off. Sliding into the intersection of Market and Castro against the light at 25mph just doesn't sound like fun. My first thought was to jam my foot in the front tire like the kids in the opening credits of "On Any Sunday," but I was cutting cars, and figured that it would cause too much wiggle. So I turn into Fred Flinstone. I unclip my right foot and start sliding. It was surprisingly effective, but not good enough. Unlike WK, I wasn't still pedaling with my left foot, so I unclip and HOP off the seat and slam both feet, skid style, into the pavement. Thank god for high standover clearance. I finally stop, my front tire centered on the white line.
10 minutes later, I fitted my new Nitto B123 CrMO bars from American Cyclery.
Talk about love-hate relationships.
Is it possible you may need to ride another bike for a bit and let that one kind of cool down in the corner for a bit?

Yikes! That sounds kinda scary! I think I'll go check my chain tension. Especially since Stripperella is over.

Yea, I agree with hammye... Give it some tough love. Just like with my students... Put it in the corner have allow others to pelt it with chalk bits, nothing painful.

Well, since you got those, I'll just throw these Sakaes in the trash...
Saw it comming. You chimed in about the polished Cannondale and your baby overheard it. The rest was in the works.....

I don't talk about other bikes when I'm with my Felt. That one gets cranky when that happens.
