I'm going to Myrtle Beach this weekend and I can't figure out if I should take my bike or not. Is there anybody out there that's done some riding in and around MB? If so, let me know if it's worth trying to ride there. Thanks!

You have to continuously dodge all those bikini-clad females crossing Ocean Blvd. Kinda hurts your average speed. If you get away from the main drag, there's some good cycling. The pavement is not very smooth, however.

I am from Myrtle Beach, although not living there now. The riding there is not so great. (there used to be a great MTB area called "the pits"....now a neighborhood  ) Going down Ocean Blvd in the summer is not the safest thing. There are tourists and oldies that are not paying attention. Watch out for right hooks and door prizes. If you are on the Blvd, the north end is a lot less busy and goes through residential areas and one area is right next to the beach for a couple miles. The whole Blvd is about 11 miles and about half of that is "the strip". So you won't get much distance.

About 20 miles north, at Calabash, NC, you can get away from everything. There are some really nice less traveled roads there. Just go to the Calabash turnoff and head north. There are a couple islands you can go out on and some nice scenery.

I was into MTB when I last lived there, so that is about all I can tell you.
