So I saw my sister tonight, and she tells me that she hit a biker the other day. I guess she was sitting at an intersection that allowed right turn on red, and this guy was riding on the sidewalk, and then went through against traffic through the crosswalk.

She said it didn't do anything to the bike or the biker (forgot to ask what he was riding, she'd probably only know the type - I'm guessing a Huffy mountain bike given the fact they were riding sidewalks against traffic) but she said she gave the guy her number if there's anything wrong and offered my and goatmeal's expertise in fixing the bike...

I'd 'fix' his bike :)

I'm just bummed that she wasn't looking. She's got two brothers that ride around town on brakeless fixies and still hits a biker.

I agree with you mgilman. Can't feel too sorry for someone not following the rules.
Still to bad they got hit, but they should have been looking for cars as well.

You sister did everything she could. I've come close to smoking these "pedestrians on wheels" on my bike when making a left turn. They've got about a four inch event horizon and there's not a hell of a lot you can do with them. Like people who ride down the wrong side of a street at night with no lights... (just about hit one of them too)

Hope she's okay

As far as I know they're both OK - she was just feeling really guilty about it, since her brothers both don't drive... She rides an old 3 speed cruiser, too, so she knows what it's like to ride...

The guy was definatly not riding the way he should - if I was ever riding down the sidewalk up to an intersection I'd be looking for cars turning right - I slow down if I hear a car close behind when coming up to an intersection (and I'm usually only on the sidewalk when my destination is on that block) - you never know when they're going to turn...

It just reminded me how easy it is to become roadkill.

When did she do that?

Damn am I out of touch with our family....

Such a slacker I am.

Yeah really the majority of the people in this town don't pay enough attention to the road, be it bicyclists, drivers, or pedestrians...

I guess just a couple of days ago. I didn't get to talk to her for that long - it was down at the local about 1:30am that I saw her. I'll see her again on Sunday to help her learn guitar, so I'll get more details then.
