I just thought some of you would like to see these. These are from a 1972 Miroir De Cyclisme Magazine I just recently got. I might upload more of what's in them later. Enjoy!

I think he either just shifted gears or wiped his front tire with his glove. Man is he bandaged up in that first pick.

Note the Pino stem in the hour record pic.

3rd pic, the man had style!

Re pic no. 1: that should be in the dictionary next to the definition for "hard."

Re pic no. 2: 31 miles in one hour, wool shorts, no TT bars, no space alien helmet. Unfrickinbelievable.

Re pic no. 3: Perfection.

Can you re-submit in a form that could be clipped, and turned into a screen saver, etc.? Awesome pic.!

You should be able to Right-click on the pictures and "save-as". After that, you can applythem as a background, screensaver, etc. If not, I can email it to you, but it should work.

That first photo makes me feel like a big old girl's blouse. I'd be at home on the couch, nursing my wounds with a cold beer.

Any guesses as to what year that was (centerpulls)? Sorry, I don't know my Eddy history as well as I should.

That was his first time in the Paris-Roubaix classic in 1966.

Yes, thanks for helping out the techno-challenged. It worked, and I have it now.

Thanks for the great scans.

Merckx had the greatest expressions. Here's another Paris-Roubaix one, this time from 1970:

Gilberto, thanks to your images I spent most of this Saturday evening reading up on the history of Eddy Merckx, instead of spending time with my family. I am now in the doghouse.

So what kind of tire is the great one riding on in this pic? I always thought red treaded tires were more slick in the rain. And I really thought the Clement Paris Roubaix silk tires is what most riders actually used in that race and therefore the name. To my knowlege they didnt come in red.

Sorry about lower quality of photos but I don't have a scanner so these are photos of magazine pictures.

I brought a 1972 miroir du tour magazine for my coffee table a while back.
The chap selling them had over 10 years worth on offer, but regrettably I did not have the funds to buy the lot.

Not scanned it yet, but here are the rest of the photos (http://www.prettyshady.com/1/media/09/janjan/1972%20-%20miroir%20du%20tour/)

To my knowlege they didnt come in red.I was surprised to see a red tire there too. Looks like a red champion du monde (sp?) It was a heavy tire. Seems like I have seen some red ones.

Note that the back tire is not red, maybe he flatted?

I don't think that's a red tread. I think it's just covered in a slick of red Roubaix mud.

White tape with gum hoods. I'm going to have to see if I can find some gum covered hoods for my Red levers when I build up my new Bianchi. Modern function with classic looks!

And the brake cables behind the handlebars. Guess I'd better switch mine around! :)

These are great photos -- Eddy always makes the bike look frail, like he could turn it into twisted metal at any moment.
