Classic & Vintage - Update your Winter project (s)

It finally warmed up enough to here to work in my un-insulated shop for more than an hour at a time and get some work done on my 1960 Legnano rebuild.

I still have to build the front wheel and overhaul the brake calipers, and pedals. But it's getting there.

All the parts have been completely torn down, cleaned and re-asembled. I love working on 50 year old Campy stuff when it cleans up so nice. Where else do you get to clean and repack ball-bearings in derailleur jockey wheels!

Such a beautiful machine!

I love those old Gran Sports! That crankset isn't too shabby either.

The thin, shaped arms on the original 151 cranksets are extremely classy - far nicer then the 144's, IMO.

80's Gitane, mostly mavic ssc, some campy, some nitto :)

As for my other winter projects, my Bianchi has been at the powder coaters for...almost three weeks now! I never new a bike frame took so long to strip and powder.

I'm also waiting for my Alan frameset from ebay to show up. I paid for it a week ago today and it has yet to ship ...

I have posted this on another thread, but this is what I've been working on lately. It's an old ridgid frame KHS mountain bike that I converted into a psuedo tourer.

... 1960 Legnano rebuild. Great year for bikes. :) I have always appreciated the Legnanos and Bianchis of that era.

I bought Capo #2 because its original Campagnolo hubs and derailleurs were complete and in great condition. I am jealous of your Campagnolo crankset and dropouts, which were the only two places Otto Cap pared production costs on the otherwise high-end bikes he exported to the U.S.

Not particularly a classic but it is somewhat vintage. Here is my winter project. An early 90's Specialized Crossroads that is getting a LHT treatment of sorts.
On One midge bars, Ultegra 8spd bar end shifter, Cane Creek Brake levers, Shimano FC-M730 Crank 48/38/28, Un 54 BB, Deore DX FD, Deore XT rd, Deore XT Cantilever Brakes, Wheelset is 32 hole Xt hubs laced to Salsa Delgado Rims (36 would have been perferable but I got such a great deal)

The only things now left original to the bike are the stem, headset, and frame.

...but there's still a couple months of winter left yet :)

Regards the handlebar tape job on the Legnano - WOW! Finally another person who wraps the bars top-down. A big, gooey, wad of electrical-tape would have ruined those pictures, in my book. I just wrapped my semi-modernized Puch in Brook's leather - then treated them with Proofide:

Actually they are wrapped stem down AND end up, stopped inside the lever housings.

You can't wrap from the stem all the way down with bar-end's unless you want your electrical tape down there.

My rule: Cloth and Benotto stem down, modern cork and pleather end in. You do not need an ugly wad of electrical tape for end in wrap if you square off the the end of the wrap with a razor blade and use a couple of revolutions of tape in a single width overlap. It just looks bad when it's done sloppily (like how most bike stores do it).

In the past couple of days, I have made leaps in my project line up.

Done - 1970 Ladies Raleigh Sports (saved from dump. New used Brooks B72L, grease, grips, tires, shifter cable and a wash)

Done - 1985 Ross Mt. Hood (saved from dump. New cables, seat, and grips. Had to scrape a black spray paint job off of all of the chrome...the whole frame is chrome..ugh)

Still to do:

1997 Trek (new chain and stem)
1978 Woodrup (switch wheelsets)
1994 Dean Colonel singlespeed (switch out 16t freewheel for 17t)
2001 Surly Instigator (hydraulic brake maintenance)
