Tandem Cycling - new calfee

Took delivery of our new Calfee at Christmas. Have about 350 miles on it including the Stagecoach Century last weekend. Ride is great all components working. After we do some more riding and determine comfortable set up for stoker bars we are going to have a carbon stoker stem made.

Very nice indeed. Nice contrast with red. We ordered one as well and should expect delivery by April 1.
What are the things on the boom tube? Bottles?

Tool bottles from Soma Fabrication also had another set of studs added for the pump

Can't comment on this bike, but my wife is 2" taller than me and stokes. I ride solo bikes more than she does and she prefers that I captain simply based on my road experience. Plus, she likes looking around on rides. If she's uncomfortable up front, I'm certainly not going to MAKE her captain; and finding a shorter stoker would have defeated the purpose... So while our setup doesn't look quite as extreme, it's probably just team preference.

Stoker is 3" taller than captain but legs are 6" longer than captains, stoker is also 80lbs lighter than captain. Stoker is also new to cycling does not ride a single and is not interested in riding a single. Captain has been riding 5000 to 8000 miles for last 25 years. I think we have the right set up.:)

Wheels are 36 hole Chris King with Mavic A719 rims, DT Swiss non butte spokes, brass nipples, Continetal 4 season 28mm tires. The goal was strong wheels of reasonable weight and comfortable ride.........mission accomplished as they used to say.

There is at least an 1/8 clearence between the disc and stay, I removed and replace the rear wheel with no problems. I dont know if this picture will show much.

I didn't mean to suggest it was wrong for your team. I was just curious what lead to the unique setup.

Question for you: is there much flex in the fork area, if at all? Calfee obviously makes dynamite stuff and one day I'll get my hands on one but the Fatty front fork on my C'dale looks substantially larger and is aluminum. (Maybe because it's aluminum that it's so big, not sure.)

No flex or problems that I am able to notice. We have been doing some out of the saddle sprinting and climbing and the bike is much easier to handle then our Comotion Speedster. The fork is not actualy made by Calfee they purchase an Alpha Q 1 1/8" Carbon Tandem Fork and put it through their own QC before they rebadge it.

It fits! That's what counts.
Besides, that's a nice looking Calfee and great looking tandem team.
Stoker Kay gave up her single bike decades ago and is happy being stoker (or 'rear admiral' when she wants to outrank the captain).

Chichi, please post a pic when you get and install the CF stoker stem. I am curious to see if the stem design can make the stoker's bars/stem setup look more fluid.

We got to see Chchi's tandem in person and I tell you is even nicer when you see it real life. Cool bike!
