Classic & Vintage - Opinions on vintage? Diamond Back "Response Sport"

It appears to be a 1995....maybe? I say this as this is all I found on it http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?Year=1995&Brand=Diamondback&Model=Response+Sport&Type=bike Im going to slap a set of slicks on it and see how she handles. If I like it it'll be my first hardtail keeper. If not I guess I'll have to flip her. Any info would be appreciated :thumb:

My first bike had the "Smoke" tires front & rear. I thought I was going to have a heart attack trying to do 10 MPH on the street!

IF it's going to be a "pavement bike", you probably want to change the cassette to something with a smaller BIG cog. Even as small as an 11-19 if you don't have steep hills. That would give you about 29 Gear Inches on the bottom with a 1.5" tire. Virtually identical to the 32-28 with your current tire, but without all the "lugged tire" disadvantages.

Keep in mind, going to "slicks" will gear you down even more because of the smaller diameter. A 26x1.5" is about 4% smaller than a 26x2". The decreased weight & rolling resistance is worth a couple teeth.

Although it seems like most of you could care less :p here are a few pics of the DB with street tires, clipless pedals, and bar ends. They (the bar ends) look like the old ones but if you look at the pics the old ones were really beat. Its all used stuff I had laying around but it works. :thumb: Havnt cleaned it up but will soon :o :D

I picked up a less-C&V (2006) Response recently for some light off-roading, and I've been sorting out maladjusted and broken components for a few days. I really wish I bought something older. Yours is bound to be more reliable.

I ordered a set of Michelin Country Rock tires, which look like decent commuter skins.

Great find! I was given one just like by my Da a year ago. I spent a bunch of time cleaning it up, replacing forks with rigid, shifters, and turning it into a bad as$ adventure touring bike. Small problem though, it's a hair too small for me. Oh well, it was a fun project and my 16 yr old son is coveting it big time. I'll post some pics as soon as I can find the friggin camera.

Although I'm a vintage GT, Ritchie and Specialized guy, I like some of the DB's that were made in Taiwan... Good bikes and I especially like the ones from the 80's, w/ no suspension.... Does yours have a tubing decal on the seat tube? True Temper frames rock!!

True Temper AVR double butted Cr-Mo Tubing :) Made in China though?
