Ok, so I have decided to unload some of the bikes that I have (4). Mostly they are ones that are converted from multi to fixed. What would be the best way to get rid of them for the most money on e-bay? Sell them as complete bikes, or part them out and sell the various bits one by one and the frames separately? I tend to think that the bikes parted out would get the most money but would also be the most hassle. The only time that I sold anything on line was thru a bulletin board and the jerk backed out on the deal at the last minute after I had shipped it to him. I got the parts back but it was a hassle and cost me some money for shipping. What is anybody's experience in selling on e-bay? I would appreciate all input. Thanks.

By far easier to do it as a whole: watching ebay. However, parting them out much more lucrative.

Ebay sort of makes the deal easy in the have to follow through issue.

You might list what you've got here.. some one may pick it up, and it may be someone who you can trust..

I have sold many times on ebay, quite easily.

I just sold entire bikes, seems like it is too much hassle to part a bike out, not to mention lots of work.

Let's see.
crank
Wheels
Frame
Saddle
bars
etc.

That would be 6+ auctions you would have to deal with for each bike, so you are looking at 20ish auctions probably. That is 20 possible deadbeat bidders, slow payers, etc... Selling complete bikes is how I would do it.

Try doing what WK said, selling through the forums, you have a good audience that knows the quality/value of fine bicycles.

I know that ebay has been both effective and quick for me. HOwever, parts haven't always brought in the amount of cash I had wanted. Depends on the demand and how many other options there are out there. Plus: figure in the time you will spend selling parts vs. whole bikes. This can be very time consuming, not to mention tedious.

I have decided to break down the frames and sell the parts piecemeal. I don't have a deadline for completing the sales so it isn't important how fast they sell. I have a few months to get it together. The frames are a Peugeot PX-10, Pannasonic w/s/s track ends, and Bianchi w/track ends, all have been repainted and are in great shape. The Wheels are Phil hubs that are laced to Mavic Ma-3's, and Suzue flip flop f/f laced to mavic Ma-3's, and various Brooks saddles. They are all good quality stuff so should be more desirable than the run of the mill stuff that I have seen online. I haven't decided whether I will sell the Tandem yet. My wife doesn't want to but we are considering moving across the country to a smaller living space and there just won't be enough room for all these toys. And if there is enough room when we get there, then I can fill it up with new toys. Right? I will post the links when they get up on E-bay and see what happens.

I tried to sell some guitar stuff on ebay and the buyer backed out, I pursued the deal and found out now ebay kicked this dude off the site. A red flag should have gone up his email was like jesseilovemyhotass@blahblah.com, not that you couldn't have a cool address like that but...

Hope your experience is better than mine, I still have the effects pedals if anyone is interested?!

From what I understand it is better to use Pay-Pal to act as an intermediary. They take a cut for the service but it is probably worth it what with the flakes that are lingering about. It tends to cut out the jerks.
I am going to sell some woodworking tools also and we shall see what happens.
