View Full Version : What size and model is this vintage Cannondale?

I know it is a small one, but the seller isn't much help.

I think it is a 19" 1989 ST400. 27" tires, Suntour derailleurs, Suntour Accushift shifters.

Anyone else got a guess?

easy way to narrow C-Dales vintage down is the Head tube logo. The actual train station is 80's. Also most didn't have the model number on the frame.

The Cannondale on angle with lines is early to mid 90's then they went to the fluted C for the last half of the 90's. Then the C that looks like a Box end wrench for the first half on 00's and the shadow lines on the Box end C through current.

Has that got the Pannier mounts in the fork? Thats probably a Touring as you have guessed but I would think it is mid 80's with the Suntour parts and safety brakes.

Catalogs with what was "suppose" to be on them (there is discrepancy such as my T700 has cranks that are listed for a T1000) and how decipher the VIN.

It might be a little larger than 19 inch. The large tubes on the C'dale tend to make the headtube appear shorter than it really is. It could be a 52 cm bike +/-. Just a guess.

An earlier post on an ST400 showed a bike less touring oriented than this one (it had a cheap double crankset for example). This bike looks better! But maybe its just a variation between years.

I agree but I think it is a 54cm. Under 54CM they started slanting the top tube and kept the BB low instead of raising it like some manufactures did. That still looks level.

This is supposedly a 52cm. Compare the space or lack there of between the top and down tubes where they meet at the headtube. This 52 clearly has more space:

The second pic is supposedly a 50cm. The headtube is almost the same height as the TT/DT joint!!
