"As long as I'm the bike coordinator for the city, Dallas will never have on-street bike lanes."

- PM Summer, Dallas Bike Coordinator (http://bikefriendlyoc.wordpress.com/2008/11/18/building-the-cause-for-change/)

So did PM Summer resign?

I suspect it's a non-issue. They'll put bikelanes on wide roads where you don't really need them, and then on the roads where you need them, there won't be room to put them, so they won't. It's not like they're going to widen the pavement everywhere, and it's not too likely that they'll remove car lanes to do it, either.

The duck comes down, StephenH wins $20.

DART light rail was not conceived as transportation, it was about attracting businesses and corporations. Interesting the Dallas councilwoman quoted in the bit said pretty much the same thing about these bike lanes.

Nice that they're taking recreation into consideration.

Now if they could come up with a safe route from the north Dallas/Preston Rd area to the other side of the tollway.....or making routes to business/shopping areas...

Oh well...I'll take what I can get.
With encouragement of more cyclists recreationally, maybe more will realize that bicycles make good transport sense in general.
