I just bought a new pair of Look Pedals, and while I'm clicked in, there seems to be an extraordinary amount of movement that my foot can do, side to side before release.

Is this normal? My mountain pedals which are Time, have very little.

I think the term is float.

I would like some feedback before I return them.

Thanks

Which pedals do you have? Some Look pedals have adjustable float on the pedals. Others are "adjustable" (between fixed and floating) via changing the cleats. If you have Time ATACs then you are probably used to +/-5 degrees of float. Also do not confuse float with release angle. This is especially true of the ATACs you are used to. With the ATACs, you float at +/-5 degs before you hit tension but then you have to go to either 13 or 17 degs (depending on how you've aligned your cleats) before you actually release.

Thanks for the reply. It seems like my foot can move the +/- 15 degrees before I get to tension. They feel real sloppy. Unfortunately, I do not know which ones they are. I'm gonna head home and look (no pun intended)

I'm not a Look expert so someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I think the red cleats are the floating cleats and the black ones are the fixed ones. I also believe that regardless of how much float you want, if you have adjustable float on the pedals, you should use the red cleats and adjust the float using the pedals. The pedals that have adjustable float should have a big knob on the back.

Khuon is on the money. The red cleats have 15 degrees float while the black ones have none. Mine do not have adjustable float so I have the tension pretty high, otherwise they feel sloppy.

Before you return them, try different float settings. Look at the rear of the pedal and you should have a knob that will show 0, 3, 6, & 9 for the float adjustment. Try a different settings perhaps 0 or 3 and see what you think. I have Look cleats and am very satisfied. Good luck.

Guys: Thnaks for all the feedback. I took them out for a ride today, and once I started cranking, the float was not an issue. I think that I will tighten them up a bit though.
All is good and I really like the big platform

Cheers

Which pedal do you have? When they start creaking, just remember that many of their pedals see this problem.

FWIW - My experience with Look pedals is that the creak occurs when the cleats are worn. I have four sets of Look pedals, the newest of which is 12 years old. They all have thousands of miles on them and none of them have any problems of any kind.

The most a Look will float is 9 degrees. But before you complain, if you don't like float, get the black cleats. Unless you have the 5.1, or CX6 and there is a dial on the back of the pedal to customize the float.

This is only on the 5.1, the CX6 or CX7. Anything below that is cleat float only. All or nothing.
