Cyclocross - Pedals/Shoes

Waz good, everybody?

I'm just kind of interested in what kind of pedals and shoes everyone is rockin'. I just bought some Crank Bros. Eggbeater SL's and Specialized MTB shoes. Anybody use either of those?

I'm pretty nub when it comes to CX, so I'm just interested to learn what everyone is using and how it holds up at events (I've yet to compete).

Why do people start these threads after having purchased the item? It makes no sense.

i ride sidi dominator 5's and shimano SPD's, but don't get SPD's. i'm gonna get some time ATACS, much better.

I have Eggbeaters. I like them a lot!
Pros: Easy to get in and out, lightweight, lots of mud clearance, amount of float is adjusted by the mounting of the cleat.
Cons: Pretty much no adjustment capabilities on the pedal, no platform (on eggbeaters)

One of my co-workers have Time Atacs. He says he likes them a lot. It offers more of a platform for sprinting, but weighs more for the same price.

I kind of feel like my Specialized shoes are a little harder to run in than the cheapo Pearl Izumi's they replaced. They feel much nicer on the bike though, especially on rides over 2 hours.

I like my specialized shoes, they're wide. I like my eggbeaters. I just wish they didn't break so often.

I've got over 6k on a set of the lowest end egg beaters which included a cross country tour, I've had to pack in grease into each pedal once, other then that I have had to think about them. I'm looking at replacing them now because the springs have a good deal of play in them now so even with new cleats they have a ton of float. Before I turn around and pick up another set of egg beaters I wanted to find peoples experience with the Ritchey WCS pedals. On paper they appear to be a happy medium between XTR's and egg beaters. Any thoughts?

I got adidas marathon's which seem to be the only shoes that fit me and they're great except the cleat plates suck and strip easily.

Eggbeaters with Exustar mtn or LG mtn shoes depending on the temps.

You can't adjust eggbeater float at the pedal. You get either 15 or 20 degrees of float, depending on which cleat is on which shoe. If you look closely, one of the cleat has two dots on it, and the other is blank. I don't remember which matchup of dots/no dots and left/right is 15 and which is 20.

I have 4 sets of Egg Beaters and 4 pairs of shoes all with Egg cleats. That's a significant investment. So much so that I am now reluctant to switch to Time.

If I had to do it over again, at my weight, I would choose Times. But when it costs $400 to switch everything so all my shoes are compatible with all my pedals, I'll just stick with Crank Brothers excellent customer service.

Actually...

CrankBrother pedals have 6 degrees of non-adjustable float. The 15/20 degrees refers to the release angle.
