Fifty Plus (50+) - Sometimes I feel so all alone...

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

With a bike that colour-I'm not surprised:innocent:
Still, get it out on the road with the UK's current weather and it will soon tone down to a dirty brown tint.

I see plenty of under-50 girls riding single speeds on my commute route......but an over-50 girl on a fixed is rare around here. :D
Nice one. What's the story?
Richard
and if it's okay for old pharts to embarress themselves on fixies, it's okay for old sheilas too ;)

It takes a confident person to ride a bike that color! Or to even ride with someone else on a bike that color!:)

Sorry Alice,
All the females I see riding fixed gear are barely 20+! They do seem quite good at it, and most don't have brakes. They do have some lovely piercings and tats though!

The guy at the LBS said something similar to me when I asked about the Surly LHT. :notamused:
Alice, that bike is screaming for a pink helmet. Wanna borrow mine? :)

Every time someone starts complaining about pink bikes, I get to post another picture of mine.
Today, it got a good cleaning, a new chain, some tweaks the derailleur, and a 20-mile ride during modest snow flurries.

We can't let the kids have all the fun...;)
In addition to my bike being pink I have a flower headbadge...http://www.geocities.com/alicestrong@sbcglobal.net/__headbadge.jpg
My friend Harv helped me with the bike...he even rode it a bit (his first time on a fixed and he's 72!).

Hey, your bike looks great and fixed is fixed.:thumb: BTW, there are four 50+ women in our racing club that race at the track. At least one, has a fixed gear bike that she rides on the road.

Hey George, Hey Alice,
Can we get together for an LA area fixed gear 50+ ride sometime? Of course, any other 50+ fixed gear riders would be welcome (if there are any).
LA or Orange County would be fine with me.

I had a pink Nashbar touring bike for about 15 years until I gave it to my nephew (who rode it from Vancouver, B.C. to Walnut Creek this summer.)
I preferred to call it "salmon", or "watermelon", but yeah, okay, it was pink.

Yes, I still go by the Bike Oven now and then.
I went on this month's Art Ride. There was a party afterwards...:)

Hi Rick
I would love that...!
Hey, don't you know a couple of 50+ guys who ride fixed?
I should warn you, though. It would have to be a social ride. I'm really out of shape, no athletic type rides for me. I don't think that I've ridden more than 15 miles in one day in weeks...:o

Hello!
If I'm free from my erratic work schedule on the weekend of the ride I'll definitely join! It's been quite a while since I've ridden with other fixers.

Great Alice and George!
Yes, social is the speed I had in mind. I was thinking social MUP, maybe SART? I know one other 50+ guy who rides fixed, or really, I should say I know of him. He rides with the Rebels sometimes, but I don't know his name . . . will try to find out.
The only places that serve pie, that I know of, are located where we'd have to do long climbs. So re: where and when, I'm open to suggestions!

Nice bike Alice. I made a trip to my local SportChalet for a tube. While I was there I saw the pink Terry Butterfly on sale for $45! Usually about $100. They had a sale on some Terry's. It would look hot on that bike! WOnder if your local SC has the sale?;)

Whoa Beanz!
All I do is type "SART" and you zero in on the post. I love it!
So when are you setting up your fixed gear Mr. Beanz?

Female or male, fixed gear and 50+ is pretty rare! No reason the young hipsters should have all the fun. (see sig)
But I think I'm going to put the rear brake back on mine.
As for Velodiva...well, we are not worthy!

I think Yen or Red Rider may be the next mature female fixed rider...:thumb:
