There is a 1988 Miyata 615 available in a local auction . It is an all original complete 54cm bike. It has been owned by only one person and he says it is excellent shape. I am very interested in making a bid and was curious as to what would be a good price. I have included a pic of the bike as well as a pic of the bike from a Miyata catalog.
Assuming bike is ready to ride, no dents or dings, and as good as it looks, this is a pretty good bike. Vintage touring bikes hold their value well, I would guess something like $400. If you can get it for $300 or less, I would consider that a pretty good deal. If it is an auction that is mainly focused on other items (so the crowd is not looking for bikes) you could get it for less than $100, which would be a smokin' deal.

Good luck!About a week ago I picked up a decent condition 73 supersport for $5. Saw an auction bill in a local free paper listing the bike as a schwinn 10 speed bicycle. I problably could have got it for a buck but I would have felt guilty. feel it-attack at the last moment-get a deal.

Had to dig around their site a little to find it.
+1 for the apparent condition
+1 for the rear rack
+1 for the seat bag, I've got one like that and I can fit an amazing amount of stuff into it
+1 for the pump
+/-1 for the 18speed gearing, +1 if you can live with a 6speed on back, -1 if you can't, +1 if the rear spacing works for you, -1 if you want an 8-10 speed on back, just depends on what you're looking for and what you can live with.
For me the 6x3 gearing would be a +1, plus I could downtalk it semi-openly if evesdroppers are listening in at a live auction ...
("gee, I've heard that older freewheels can be hard to find so I'd have to get a whole new rear wheel and the newer stuff needs a wider spacing on back and some frames can't have that done to them and the paint would crack and cousin Elmo crashed once on a bike that had that done to it and he had to pay several hundreds of dollars first for the new wheel and then again to get the bike fixed after the crash and he was never the same after that crash but he was never completely right in the head before the crash but still it can be expensive if I'd want to upgrade the bike or if the parts ever failed and I think Elmo's crash had something to do with the downtube shifters like this bike has or else it was the beer bottle in the water bottle cage or something but in any case even for $25 this bike might not be a bargain so I think I'll just sit back and watch it then will probably go to the bicycle shop down the street and get a new road bike for $200 with all new components and not have to worry about fixing any old stuff on this one, wink wink ") . Not that I would ever do such a thing in a live auction, unless I saw someone peeking at my note pad :innocent:
Looks like a nice bike. I'm not sure how their auction system works, if it is an online auction, or if it's an in-person auction, or if it's a preview auction with in-person auction for the stuff that didn't sell during the previewing. If it's online then do they have an ebay style proxy bid, or is it a straight bid until the deadline, don't know. That's the only negative I can see.
Depending upon how their system works I say try to get it for under $150, but if it fits and if you like it then see the posts above.
