Track Cycling - Deep-Vs or Fusions?

I am building up my first track bike, a Bianchi Pista Concept. My LBS will sell me a set of Velocity track wheels with Dura-Ace hubs for about $400 that they'd like to get rid of. Or, they can build me a set of Velocity Fusions for approx. the same price with, say, Surly hubs. I hear the Deep-Vs are noticeably heavier, but don't know how much of a difference the DA hubs make. I intend to compete, hopefully keep these wheels for a long time, and I don't want to spend more than $400. Any input on the Deep-Vs, Fusions, or any comparable wheelsets? Thanks.

it doesn't matter much (which rims to choose) especially on the track. for the same price it's no contest get, the dura-ace hubs. the dura-ace hubs will last you the rest of your life.

If this is for racing, you should probably consider the Velocity Pro Elite, which is the tubular version of the Deep V. I use the Pro Elite for training and some racing, and I like them a lot. They're plenty stiff (far stiffer than my Hed disc) and provide a moderate aerodynamic advantage.

Fusions are a good rim, too, but Deep V's are pretty popular as track wheels for a reason (not because they come in bright colors).

Deep V's are heavier than Fusions, but the Deep V wheelset would be worth it for the hubs.

A DA-Deep V wheelset is an excellent wheelset. Sure, they're heavier, but in their defense, they're also quite aero.

After racing on them for a few seasons, you're apt to get a set of race wheels, but you'll always keep your Deep V's around as excellent trainers.

I got my Mavic Ellipses for right around $400... Probably right in line, performance wise, with the ones you listed- and they come with bladed spokes and a fixed/fixed hub

Thanks for the advice everyone. The deep-Vs look like a really solid wheelset, and a nice pick for my first track wheels until I can afford to have more expensive taste!
