Training & Nutrition - Different Approach to my Workouts

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Posted this in Clyde/Athena section aswell but thought I'd throw it out here too. I've been a wieght lifter for years, nothing competitive always lift by myself so not even friendly stuff with a buddy. Last 6 months have been doing light wieght high reps and have lost some wieght and have fewer aches and pains. Now I'm thinking of going wieght free, well not intirely. Still plan on doing leg stuff put no upper body. Going to spend more time in the pool and on the bike or treadmill. Also going to to more isometric exercises and go to some of the cardio/toning classes. Going to try this till the begining of the bike season just to see were it takes me. Hoping to drop some more lbs and when I lift the oppisite happens. Any of you guys and gals out there tried this approach?
I have and it is the way to go for me. I have lately gone back to higher leg weights for extensions and leg curls and promptly re-aggravated an injury around the left hip. I am going back to lighter weights and concentrating on form and higher reps. I have been doing more upper body than legs - legs just extensions and curls and just 2 days a week, no more. I try to do at least an hour+ aerobics, and do the weights in a circuit. I usually bike fixed gear to the gym and that's about a half hour each way, so I'll ride in, do about 30 minutes on an elliptical machine, aerodyne or treadmill and then a weight circuit or swim. When the outside weather improves I will go back to swimming more - I was doing a mile + / 2 or 3 days a week. I still can't lose any weight, but then I can't stop eating either.

I just read the iso stuff doesn't work. Who knows, but I would keep up some upper body. Once you've got the strength why let it go.

You are now on your way. Plyometrics, functional strength, medicine balls, kettle ball and yoga is the perfect balance of overall strength and fitness. I encompass all of them in my training program in my home everyday. Here is link to my blog where you can see what I do everyday as I attempt to become a Mt Bike pro this year. mikedmanthey.blogspot.com
