so i just picked up a used road bike on the cheap from a guy who cleans out storage units and has to sell the stuff. i needed the bike exclusively for parts (handlebars, stem, wheels, etc.)

it is an older motobecane, with made in france written all over it. the frame is too big for me, so i would like to sell it as a SS project frame. its in good shape, definitely a member of the "steel is real" club. horizontal rear drop outs. fork is in good shape too (also steel).

its probably about a 56cm frame.

since i got it on the cheap, i figured i would put it out there on craigslist for $30.

this could be a good project frame correct? any thoughts?

i'll post up some pics when i get home from work.

It probably has a French or Swiss threaded bb if it's as old as it sounds. If the bb cups are still there, leave them in place so the frame remains much easier to build up, and make sure the buyer is aware that compatible bb's are now rare and/or expensive.

good advice, yes, the bottom bracket and crank is still attached to the frame, and appear to be in good condition, nice and smooth rotation.

i think for $30 or under, this could be a solid rider.

pictures and model would help. also, the classic and vintage forum has a sub forum just for asking the value of old bikes.

thanks, i'll get pics up tonight,

to be honest i dont really care about the "value" - since i got it cheap, i would just like to see someone get some use out of it and make a few dollars of my "investment" back.

value is a relative term.

yes, as i mentioned, i'm more interested in it going to a good home than getting any real cash for it...

low end motobecane, can't tell the model. should be worth $30 to the right buyer though
