Clydesdales/Athenas (200+ lb / 91+ kg) - Power Grips

Anyone ever try Power Grips pedals from nashbar? I don't want to go clipless but these looked like they'd be good for the grocery run or recreational riding with the ability to walk around comfortably in regular athletic shoes.

I used them on my commuter bike for a while. I bought the straps and added them to my existing pedals, rather than buying the strap-pedal combo. FYI, there are two sizes of straps; if you have large feet you might need the extra-long straps.

Overall, I'd say that PowerGrips work very well. Which is to say: they hold your foot pretty securely. Almost as securely as clipless pedals. If I stuck my foot under the PowerGrips as far as possible, then I had to twist my heel outward in order to get out of the strap. Unlike clipless pedals, however, if I knew I might need to get my foot off the pedal quickly I just didn't insert it under the strap very far.

All in all, I'd say that PowerGrips work much better than traditional toe cages and straps.

Been using them for 5 years. Only issue is, wish I had the longer ones. My main goal was to have something that would keep the feet from slipping sideways off the pedal. Works well for that.

I bought two sets of those and have been using one set for about 4 months. I prefer them over toe clips and straps. I've got wide size 11 feet and the large ones just barely fit me. I've used them with everything from summer sandals to sneakers to insulated LL Bean snow sneakers and they work great in all cases. I would really recommend these. I just got the straps and attached them to some pedals that were made for toe clips. Hot weather + sandals + powergrips = happy toes despite ahlete's foot.

I use them on my commuter bike. It's nice because I don't have to wear cycling specific shoes. I think they work as advertised, I like them.

Have had one set for four years on my MTB. Work great for trails, commuting, and recreation. Getting a new pair since eventually if you fail to service your pedals they get some play in them!
