Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Anybody install a 2nd set of brake levers on the vertical bar ends? I think they call them safety levers.

When you say vertical...

Right, exactly. Except I found out more about safety levers and how they have to be "in-line" between the regular levers and the brakes. So it would be impractical on the bar ends.

um why?

clip on lever extension existed during the crazy bar end heyday of the 90's, but they sucked then, and i imagine they'd suck now.

So it would be impractical on the bar ends.

Vertical bar ends are impractical themselves...let alone mounting some "safety levers" on them.

vertical bar ends are good for poking your eyes out

I prefer running a 160mm stem and then running the bar ends in reverse.

it increases my 'leverage ratios'

First, there is nothing safe about bar ends pointing up like that.. plus it looks stupid.

Second.. most of the time you use bar ends is when climbing.. why would you need to brake while climbing?

Since when is "safe" important?

he's looking for "safety" levers.. I couldn't care less about his safety on that contraption.

umm... huh? Are your bar ends really positioned vertically? Do you ride this bike on trails?

Let's start by defining "vertical".

For the homeless person in a hurry, comes standard with a water bottle cage big enough for a 40oz malt liquor.

If bicyclists made all their functional decisions based on form, where would we be?
