i bought pit locks for the solid axles on my fixie. unfortunately, the pit locks only fit 10mm axles and my front axle is 9mm. is it possible to make a 10mm axle fit in my front hub? the hub is dura ace. thanks--any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

You would need to replace the cones & locknuts for your hub at a minimum (what rests against the bearings)- since they will only thread onto a 9mm. You could also maybe just buy locking skewers and keep the hollow axels?

hey thanks for the suggestions. i think i may have figured out what to do. i called shimano this morning to see if they had parts to change from 9mm to 10mm. the guy i talked to said that i couldn't do that, but that i could switch axles with an older shimano or ultegra hub and convert from a 9mm solid to a 9mm hollow. pit lock makes skewer locks so i'll see if i can find an older axle and then go that route.

You pretty much already figured it out, but yeah, Pitlock only makes locking bolts for the rear axel, the idea is that you'll run a QR compatible hub and their locking skewer in the front.

yeah i wish that pit lock would just make solid axle locks in both sizes, or that dura ace would make their front and rear track hubs with the same size axles. everything would be so much easier if it matched.

well it's done. it worked like the shimano guy suggested. i went down to my lbs and the guy there found the hub i needed and simply switched axles. cost me 15 bucks including labor.
