Southeast - Advice on renting a road bike and riding in Miami Beach

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm going to be going to Miami Beach (Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel...looks nice) in May. I will not have a car.
Most importantly, where would folks recommend renting a decent road bike? A quick Goolgle search turns up some places within about 5 miles, but closer would be better (I got really spoiled on a trip to San Diego last year with a good bike shop 2 blocks from my hotel).
Secondly -- and I'm planning on looking at motionbased.com, mapmyride, etc -- any snap recommendations about where to ride or any not-to-be-missed destinations. I'll hopefully be getting out for 25-50 mile rides most days.
Thanks!

There is a bike shop on Key Biscayne that rents road bikes. It is also a great place to ride and many roadies ride there. It is called Key Cycling and the website says it rents out road bikes for $150.00 for the week.

Thank you. I was hoping to find a place in Miami Beach as I'll have to probably walk, but or cab it to the bike shop. A couple of others that appear to have road bikes are:
Miami Beach Bicycle Center
JB Bike Shop
Any one with thoughts about those or others?
Looking at a map, I will definitely ride around to Key Biscayne!

Be very, very careful ! Miami/S.Fl is the bike murder capitol of the world.
Voted Road Rage capitol of the USA 2 years in a row by AAA.
I came here from New England and was/am still in a state of culture shock.

Great. Looking forward to it. :twitchy:
Jeff, the two shops you identified on Feb. 2 have good reputations here. Ask 'em ahead of your trip whether they can put you on the kind of wheels you want. jbbikemb@aol.com and mbbicycle@aol.com.
Don't miss the Key Biscayne ride. Prettiest in the state, we all think!
If you're a bicycle advocate, you might want to sign up for the Thunderhead Alliance workshop that will be held on Key Biscayne May 15-17. It's the Winning Campaigns Training, a great way for any bike club or advocacy group to smarten up its project potential. Look up Thunderhead's Web site and see what you think.
