Road Bike Racing - Tour de Georgia (stage 6) pictures

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'm not a photographer so couldn't figure out how to get the camera set up for "rapid" shots until after the peloton had passed :crash: but did get a few pictures. These pictures were taken in downtown Jefferson, Georgia - population 2763. The race started in Athens, Georgia about 45 minutes earlier.
My wife said this was probably the biggest thing that's come through these parts in 100 years. I replied; yes the last big thing to come through here was "Sherman's March to the Sea". :D
Here come the photographers.

Here come the Postal boys. Not sure who that guy is that's wearing the yellow jersey. :D

The parade of support vehicles was longer than the peloton.

This is downtown Jefferson, after the peloton and "parade" had passed. Before the peloton went by there was a small group near the monument with a "Greenville loves G H" banner. Naturally I didn't have the presence of mind to snap a picture. Duh.

I saw the Tour De France fly by in June 1999 near Vitre, France..Said the speed at which they passed was 25-30 mph. Goes quickly? You just like me got a shot of the cyclist in yellow. My photo is quite clear, just as yours..
My yellow cyclist was Tom Steels- that day...Know who is in yellow in your photo.?
Also, I see your gas prices are .43 cents less than ours.Looks pretty good to us..
So guess you have less incentive to bike/commute over we CA cyclists.
ps- read your note- not sure who is in yellow.Maybe you know by now? Looks like USPS bike shorts?
Nice photogs. Where's the obligatory Waffle House? Man, they have good coffee. I'll have those hash browns scattered and smothered. :)

How'd you like those Triumph marshall bikes? Pretty sweet looking. Wonder what happened to the BMWs?

The cyclist in yellow.....Definitely USPS shorts..Sort of looks like Armstrong, don't you think? Looks like pretty good team representation..
Looks like USPS, CSC, Saeco, (and maybe 'Webcor.- Chris Horner's team') Over the right shoulder of the guy in yellow.
Heah, this could be a new game..Can you recognize team gear at 53 miles per hour.? Fearless forcast...The cyclist behind Saeco- Boulangere? Great shot.
There must be a web site saying who did what..This is what stage...I assume today's stage....
ps- How was the weather...? Hotter than the TDF?
Velonews.com has all the details... and yes, its Lance.. :)

From this angle can't see the rider's numbers...An impression, the CSC cyclist in front of Lance..Tyler Hamilton? About Hamilton's stature. My team trivia is slipping...Hamilton is with the Swiss team..Pronak,is it?
The jersey behind Armstrong's right shoulder belongs to a Healthnet rider.
Jeez, you guys. I can't figure out if you're all kidding, or what.
I'm pretty sure that's Salvatore Commesso riding for Saeco. And the fella behind him (in the Canadian Champ's jersey!) is Dominique Perras. Big Tex is in yellow, and if you don't recognize that CSC rider, you need to look it up. ;)
Great shot, Patch.

Can no longer be Hamilton..Who I thought it looked a little like..Maybe Jens Voigt?

Guess unless you get a good facial shot. Don't all cyclists look alike. At least the pro's. Skinny, big legs, about 5'7".. Short hair. Like that look.Wish it me.

Healthnet CRUSHED in the Twilight Criterium later that evening, in downtown Athens.
I was hoping to make it to the end of the race at Brasstown Bald but got lost on some of the backroads. I don't venture off the main roads much. :p
I was talking to some of the folks at Sunday's prerace events and they were telling me that the last climb of stage 6 was more than Mario had expected and he was smiling and yelling to the fans, "Push, push". :D

I was at stage 3 and 4 being at the finish line in stage 3 where they crossed about 50+ and no all you could recognize is they were cyclist, but it was a blurr. On the time trial we setup on the mountain right by a hairpin curve so we saw all of them very close. Very very cool.
