Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Have any of you made any homemade trainers for winter? It's been under zero and I just can't get myself outside and I don't plan on doing much indoor training, so just macgyverying something would be great.
thanks for any info.

You can get cheap used trainers. I think that would be preferable to trying to macgyver something up, personally.

Bro, I live in mad town, I bike 10 miles a day (5 to work and back). And all I use is 1) under armour tights and shirt. Jeans over the tights. A very head hoodie + my north face apex (100 bucks).. Then I have an under armour beanie. one of those mouth cover stretchy thingys (think scarf that is sewed into a tube)... Ski Goggles, .. And IM NORMALLY HOT. Rock my nikes every day with w-mart acrylic thermal socks. It's so awesome biking in the winter!!! Anyways, just trying to let you know that I do it in this damned tundra we live in (oh the bike has cross tires on it 27", you can buy a 700c studded for 30 apiece).. Just throwin it out there.. I hope you make it through this awful ass winter we are suffering. WI LOVE

homemade trainers are right up there with setting yourself on fire with the possibility of pain.

I see stationary trainers pop up on craigslist around here for under $50 all the time. I bought one last year and hated it, so this year I bought a set of brand new rollers for ~$120 shipped, and it's a lot nicer.
Either way, making your own is asking for trouble.
