General Cycling Discussion - organized chaos

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

here in india (visiting). traffic is at a state of organised chaos, everything seems to flow so smoothly, but yet everyone doesnt follow the rules of the road. about bicycles, they are heavy but can hawl lot of load( ive seen people riding 4 people on one bike) bikers here are generaly slower. and also people do not wear helmets. india has this monopoly on one style bike and needs a revolution in the bike aspect.

Maybe you are the one to start their bike revolution! :D
We all dream cycling will become a more accepted form of transportation here in the US, but I have feeling it would end up like you have described there in India.
Are there any nice road or mountainbikes ?

the 0nly bike here that ive notice are two indian makes, nova and hero. i have bought a hero for my trip in india (5 months). it is a single speed "mountain bike", makes xMart bikes look like Merlins.
it is also funny how people here tend to like the upright position better than a more efficient pose. example: the people with "road" bikes invert the handle bar so the curve of the bar is pointing upwards instead of downwards.
and also all bikes here are single speed. but when you find a bike that has gears, it isn't shimano.
i have seen little kids with bikes with "full suspension" but it is more to showing off

and it is funny how people like the the upright possition better than the m0re efficient 0ne, examp1e pe0p1e with "r0ad" bikes, invert the hand1e bar s0 that the dr0ps are p0inting upwards t0 give them the upright p0siti0n,
i baught a bike f0r my trip t0 india (6 m0nths) and it is a her0 "m0untain" bike, it has 0n1y 0ne gear, and is rea11 heavy,

Turbo, I have a "Made in India" mountain bike, it's a "Caribou". It was bought from a bike shop in the late 90's. I think it was an attempt by some Canadians to outsource to India, but looks like it didn't work, it's the only one I've seen. It has Shimano SIS derailleurs and basic entry level components. Nice paint and decals too. I bought it from a friend for my wife to ride, but she doesn't like it, so I'm giving it to my daughter-in-law, who has actually visited India.

I cycled in India for 2 weeks and only saw about 3 bikes with gears, mine being one of those.
It's a wild place to ride but I'd be back there in a flash if I had the chance.

I'm glad to see people have positive things to say about riding in India. I'm moving there for 2 years and taking my s/s beater (I hope). Mediacreations, Turbonium either of you go to Bangalore?
