I'm looking for opinions on whether these are suitable for use down into the single digit temperatures...

I did. It's warm down to about 30F. However, it is snug, especially at the thumb. Go a size up, especially if you want to cram liners in there. At really cold temps, below 25F, I switch to PI Lobstahs...
I wear mine down to the about 10 degrees. Then I swtich to mittens. I am usually warmer than most. And like flipped4bikes said, go a size up. I have the XXL and they fit perfectly.
I'm a wimp - I go to mittens around -3 Celcius in TO (in dry Calgary, I can use lobsters down to about -10).
For single digit Farenheit temps - I would definitely go with mittens.

Yeah, I got the Borealis too and I like them. Their main downside is that they take a really long time to dry - if you just leave them on the counter without some air or heat source, they may not be dry overnight. Then again, that's a downside of most weatherproofed heavy gloves or mittens.
