A friend gave me a Aheadset SP2 that I was trying to use on a build. It looked pretty standard to me except there is a second ring similar to the crown race except it's split. It's the one on the right in the picture. Does this just go above the crown race? All the cups and bearings look normal to me.

That is a compression ring and goes between the upper cover and the cartridge bearing.
