I have an 86 Trek 400 I'm trying to find modern brakes for. Everything I tried doesn't have enough reach. Does anyone know of a good set that work?

I do have a cervelo set that is very close to being long enough. the top of the pads just barely rub the tire. Do they make special brake pads that are thinner or are set down further?

Tektro and Shimano make a few modern long reach dual pivot brakes. If you put a wheel in the frame and measure straight down from the brake bolt hole to the center of your rim braking surface, that'll get you the reach you need. If it's between 47 and 57mm you can use Shimano R450 or R650, which work really well.

Tektro r556 or r365. I got one of them for my wife's 700c conversion, I think the 556. Very nice brake.

I put Tektro R730 Quartz on my older Davidson. They work well and look good. Get the matching R200a levers too, they're pretty good.
