I have my eye on a '79 ford ranchero. Any suggestions on how to rig up a bike rack in the open back?

You can get fork mounts for around $20 that bold to the bed floor or wall. I used those in my Dodge PU. (Actually, mounted them to the toolbox..)

Maybe this rack from Performance will work?

My pickup has a cap on the back, i just lean the bike against the side, and secure it with a couple of bungey cords, no problems.

I'm afraid the bike(s) would get banged/scratched up that way. I'm not sure if it matters, but my ranchero has no cab.....

Oooo, that looks good. I'll just have to measure the ol' ranchero to see if the width will work...

Thanks!

No cab? just a bed? I think someone is trying to sell you a trailer and calling it a truck.

I knew what you meant. Someone already dubbed me "picker of nits" but I think it has to do with the distinct lack of actual work to do right now at my job.

btw lala do you do work for an IMC?

Here's a mount that I'm gonna get soon.

That's cool. How do you mount it? Bolts? 2 x 4?

I bought the monster car/truck and am very excitable about bike transportability.

I bolted mine directly to the part of the bed that is right behind the cab, towards the top of the bed. Make sure that you use grease or silicon cualk if you do it this way, unless car cancer is something you enjoy.
