Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - Philippines and track bikes?

so i'm going to teh motherland in may and was wondering if there's a track bike/fixed gear scene over there? i havent been in 10 years and it would be cool if i could buy some neat stuff there.

there have been some fixedgeargallery submissions from the philippines.

I remember they used to have a velodrome back in the 90's. Not sure if it's still there but it was pretty popular for a while. Lots of gambling going on in that place.

i was in the philippines about 3 years ago. theres hardly any fixed gears over there.

if i were to scale it to something over here; 5% of the riders from SF.

i couldn't imagine biking in that country. or doing any sort of aerobic activity outdoors. jesus.

the only time that would be feasible to ride would be the winter time. it still gets in to the 90s.

It's really not that bad. I used to ride there all the time. But I will admit that riding at night is alot more enjoyable.

I think there's a singlespeed mountain bike following over there, but never saw any track bike riders in the city. Way too congested.

Man i wish there was a velodrome here so I could gamble. Combine two of my interests in one awesome thing.

No one sells Fixed Gear bikes over there, and hardly anyone knows about em. I blog about my bikes, and thats kind of the most exposure the PI gets about track bikes.


One of my friends has a conversion, and the other ordered a Kilo TT from Bikesdirect.
But none of them really ride, because its pretty hard to get a decent ride over there. And as some said, riding at night would be the most enjoyable...
Wouldve been fun to ride with another person, or a bike that fit me (rode my friends 53 conversion, Im 6'2".)

As far as the velodrome is concerned, I havent been able to find it. Im pretty sure they demolished it already, as the Philippines has become a developing country.
Youll see what I mean, when you head back. Everything looks completely different.
The street where my aunt used to live used to be bare and quiet. Now theres cars parked on the street and other crap...

The Scene that IS there... Well... Its beyond the typical "hipster" here in the states...

The "roadie" scene is pretty big. Old folks decked in lyrca and slowly pedaling around...

If you want to just be able to look at bike stuff, Cartimar is the place. They sell a lot of bike components.
Mostly road, MTB, and time trial bike frames. Youd be lucky if you find a track bike, which is most likely not going to happen. Same with track parts.
Theres one stall with a real nice Colnago, that needs to be brought to its propper state. Its decked in cheap Shimano 105 parts. The guy kept trying to tell my friend that its a good buy, since it has Shimano 105. It was around 25,000 pesos, which I forgot the exchange rate, but you can figure it out. Its around a 54/55.
If you like Spingery Rev X, they got them there too.

And if you want a pet Tarsier, they got them there too ;).

Dont forget to eat a lot of Filipino food. I miss the food there. And its CHEAP!
