the underlying assumption here is that most of us seem to think the two categories are
dissimilar rather than alike so distinguishing the two is redundant.

For example: yes man = mindless subordinate who follows orders without question
and never naysays the superior.

whiner: complains about every little thing, often suggesting that a better course of action
would be more prudent.

A yes man would never question or complain because to do so would fail to mirror back
the wishes and views of the superior party, so by definition, a yes man is very unlikely to be
a whiner. Given these definitions, when asked to distinguish the two it is reasonable to ask how
they are similar--so that if any area of of actual overlap is found they can be distinguished if relevant.
In other words, when you ask to distinguish two things that are different by definition, it begs the question
"how are they similar."
