I don't know. It's a little hard to measure with my vernier caliper, but:
The hose for the Magura rim brakes on my mountain bike has about a 5.4mm od.
The hose for the formula disc brake on my tandem has about a 5.8mm od.

Typical brake housing for cable actuated brakes has a 5.0mm od so hydraulic brake lines won't run through typical frame fittings.

I was just wondering because the guy at my LBS says he uses cable from the hardware store and it costs like $5 as opposed to buying shimano specific tubing that will cost me $20. I just need to know what the diameter is...I guess I should just bring it into the store and maybe they can help me out. Thanks Retro.
