I saw something new last night. IN THE DARK!

The road is adjacent to a large Shopping Center/Shoppin Area, with relatively heavy traffic, usually doing 45-50 MPH. Three lanes, divided, in each direction, with stoplights every 1/8 to 1/4 mile. Urban area, out in the suburbs of Chicago. Traffic frequently changes lanes to try to gain an advantage.

Out of the corner of my eye, I notice a cyclist splitting lanes. Actually riding between two lanes of moving traffic, right down the "zipper."

My first thought was that it was "kinda" dangerous, and I went by him really quickly.

I then realized that he probably had a "death wish" as he didn't even have any lights.

The kicker was, that he was going against traffic!

A real road rider.
No sidewalks for him.

Stupidity or just ignorance?

Did you notice anything specific about his looks? Homeless? Mentally ill? Teenager? Wearing a helmet cam?

Joey - I can't even fathom you doing that.

Traffic was zipping along about 40, and he came and went so fast, I had to ask myself what I just saw..... I glanced in the rear view mirror, and he just kind of disappeared....... Nothing in the paper this morning either....

All it would have taken is one car to change lanes - and he'd have been part of the zipper...

Yeah...the fleshy part that gets caught in the zipper when you go commando.

I am not defending the near-invisible bozo being discussed, but lane splitting does sometimes make sense, as when negotiating a high-speed free diverge.
