I am sad to announce the closing of the Oceanside store of Electric Bikes California/Folding Bikes West. I bought my Brompton there in December, 2005 when the Seattle based first Southern California located branch store just started. I guess it is a victim of this crazy global economic downturn. Just remember to keep supporting your own fantastic bike store (especially if it is a shop that caters to folding/other alternative bikes).

The El Segundo store is still in business, thank heaven.

yup i went there to check out their bromptons years back but i bought a Bike Friday instead. I thought they were more like misc. antique dealer and selling bromptons on the side.

I was at the El Segundo store couple of months ago trying to order a brompton which they don't stock but they never called back. the El segundo store is owned by a city councilman and they promote electric bicycles.

That is odd as I have done business with both dealers. The Oceanside store sold the bikes on the side when I bought my Brompton there. But they had a demo for test rides so that is the main reason why I went down there in the first place. The El Segundo store is a very busy shop so I have been using e-mail to contact them for price quotes, availability of parts, and other Brompton matters. Do consider using e-mail and get on their list. I find that this system works very well for me.

I was over there just a couple of weeks ago. They have Bromptons now in stock right out on the showroom floor!

Who says a good bike shop has to stay closed? There is a brief announcement I spotted in the Folding Bikes West official site:

".....The Oceanside store has closed its doors. It has been our pleasure to serve you. We shall continue to do our best taking care of your parts and service needs from the stores in El Segundo CA and Seattle WA. Thank you to all of our customers who made our three years in Oceanside possible and enjoyable. You may see us again in 2010 in San Diego....."

So a new version of the Oceanside store might survive yet.
