I think I had a crack at that bike months ago. I think it was originally painted and the paint has been removed to reveal the chrome. There's more than one ding in the TT, too, I believe, which really put me off the bike. It's Record-equipped, or should be, rather than NR. Competizione is a couple of models down from the top of the lineup. I personally wouldn't pay $900, given some of the issues.

Not a good deal. As mentioned, those bikes were not built to be exposed chrome. I've seen them stripped and it does not look good.

Plus there are no original parts left. Not that leaving it NR would be a crime, but there's no high value without originality. Tracking down the 60's stuff would be damn expensive.

To me for $300 it would make a good beater/rider. But it would cost more to restore properly then you could buy a nice example for. Especially if you enter at $900!

Not so sure about that part - my post was by way of correcting the OP regarding the difference between Record and NR, which is one of my personal windmills. But I'm pretty sure that crank is 151 bcd, and the front derailleur may have the built-in cable stop. The shifters in the second photo look like they have the correct black backing plates. I can't tell about the rear derailleur from the photos, but it looks like at least some of the 60's stuff might be there.
Edit to say that by eyeball, the rear derailleur is surely NR and not Record; the bolts and the cage shape are pretty obvious.

Ah, well that would alter the equation drastically. Still, even if it didn't have single original part, it would be more interesting than a lot of bikes that I've seen going for $400-500. I wouldn't pay more than that, though. It's a real shame about the paint being removed.

Yes, The chrome looked a little off in some of the detailed pics. Just as well, I have a newer build to consider and my bike fund is shy of the $900. I would like to pick up a nice chrome bike eventually.

That NR isn't even set up right - pulley cage is bottoming out.

Although its now over a year since this 1964 Bianchi bike was discussed, I thougt I'd let you know I was the buyer.......and you were correct in saying it had a 151 bcd chainset, but not only that it also had the rare Con Sfere 3/16" BB set.......the rear Nuovo Record gear is the patent no-date but with 9 tooth jockey wheels. As a professional framebuilder I was able to sort out any defects, such as the dent in the top tube.......see the restoration on my flickrsite.
It's actually a 'Specialissima' and not a Competizione as suggested.
The bike will be repainted in Celeste with the correct decals, then rebuilt with the correct stuff.......Universal 61 brakes, Record rear gear [the front gear & levers were correct] And as I bought it a reduced price I'd say i got myself a true Italian classic for a very reasonable price.....would have been even cheaper had I not got stung by customs!..........cheers Kev
